USA Hockey Disabled Festival

On February 18th, the Rochester Ice Cats took their first bus trip to Fraiser,
Michigan to participate in the Inaugural National Festival USA Hockey for
the Disabled.  The coaches had trouble counting up participants, but last check
was 34 attending.  We attended opening cermonies that Friday evening and was
treated to dinner and a game between the Red Wing Old Timers and US Nat'l
Amputee Team.  A lot of great action.  Sat. morning we played  the Washington
Ice Dogs and in the afternoon, Chicago Tomahawks.  Sunday before heading
back, we had a final game with the Gateway Locomotives.  In between the
hockey, we got to watch a sled hockey team compete and then back to the hotel
to jump in the pool or hot tub, The coaches even hit the golf course!!!  Many
thanks to our bus driver, John, for the terrific job he did getting us home thru the
Canadian Snow Storm.
Thanks also to Ben Neimiec from the Special Hockey division for allowing us to
attend.  Hopefully, we can put this on our calendar for the next year tournament.

2005/2006

We will be attending the 2nd Festival for the Disabled to be played in Philadelphia
Pennsylvannia.  This will be held the weekend of April 6th through the 9th.  Teams
from Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Washington, St. Louis, Rochester and
elsewhere will be in attendance.  The opportunity afforded to all is helpful
in further developing our playing skills and our friendships.  Thanks to all who
give their support to make this a wonderful opportunity.

2007/2008
This year we will be attending the USA Disabled Festival near Boston, MA.  We have a bus all arranged, since everyone knows how difficult it is driving in Boston.
Only 14 players will be going with parents, but I'm sure everyone will have a great time.
